UniChem Showcases Services To Key Parliamentary Figure
UniChem recently welcomed Patricia Hewitt, Labour MP for
Leicester West, to its Hinckley Service Delivery Centre, to demonstrate the
vital role that UniChem plays in distributing licensed medicines and medical
products to pharmacists across Hinckley and surrounding areas.
UniChem employees were on hand to answer Ms Hewitt’s questions during her visit
which took place on Friday 13 June. The visit included a presentation on
UniChem and its role in the pharmaceutical and pharmacy sectors, as well as a
tour of the Service Delivery facility in Hinckley.
Ms Hewitt, who was previously Secretary of State for Health and was recently
appointed as a special consultant to UniChem’s parent company Alliance Boots,
gained an understanding of UniChem’s responsibility within the evolving
pharmaceutical supply chain and its ongoing commitment to offering an important
service to both pharmacies and dispensing doctors across the country.
Ms Hewitt said: “I was extremely impressed by the UniChem operation, which
combines high-technology sorting equipment with a complex fleet of vans to
ensure that every chemist in the Midlands receives twice-daily deliveries of
vital prescription drugs. Whenever I go to a chemist in future, I will have a
much better idea of the high-tech and high-touch operation that makes it
possible for the chemist to give me the medicine I need.”
Terry Scicluna, Managing Director of UniChem also commented: ‘It’s fantastic
that we have had this opportunity to showcase UniChem’s services to a well
respected Member of Parliament. In light of the changing distribution model and
the challenges faced by UniChem’s customers right across the sector, we value
the opportunity for such a figure to see first hand our role within the
industry and our commitment to offering world class service to all of our
customers."
