Chris Martin Appointed as Chair of Hywel Dda NHS Trust

On Monday 21 July Health Minister Edwina Hart announced that Chris Martin will be appointed as the new Chairman of Hywel Dda NHS Trust. Chris, who is currently chair of Pembrokeshire Local Health Board, will take up his new appointment on 1 August 2008.

Edwina Hart said: “I am extremely pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Martin as Chair of Hywel Dda NHS Trust and wish him well in his new role.”

Chris Martin was born and bred in Pembrokeshire and now lives in Haverfordwest. He has had a successful career owning his own chain of pharmacy businesses in the West Country and in Pembrokeshire. Chris is a practising pharmacist undertaking locum and consultancy work and has many other business interests including his role as a non-executive advisor to UniChem Ltd.

Chris’ other positions have included Pharmacist board member, Vice-Chair of Pembrokeshire Local Health Group and more recently Chair of Pembrokeshire Local Health Board. A keen participant with local voluntary sector groups Chris is one of the ambassadors for Pembrokeshire College and is also a guest lecturer on autism.

Chris has also been recently appointed by Dawn Primarolo, Minister for Health, to sit on the Professional Regulation and Leadership Oversight Group, to oversee the splitting of functions of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of GB. Chris was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in 2006.

In his new role Chris will be responsible for leading an organisation with 7,186 staff, an annual budget of £342 Million and serving more than 372,000 people mainly in Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion.
