UNICHEM CONVENTION 2008: CHALLENGE EQUALS OPPORTUNITY
– JEREMY MAIN
Adapting positively to change and turning challenges into
opportunities is integral to Pharmacy’s future success according to UniChem’s
new Managing Director, Jeremy Main.
Addressing pharmacy delegates at the wholesaler’s annual Convention this week in
Oman, Jeremy described himself as "thrilled" to be taking up the post of
Managing Director leading a "fantastic business with great people and great
customers, operating in a valuable and important industry".
He outlined the "tough times" being faced by pharmacists and wholesalers alike,
with "huge regulatory impacts such as Category M and PPRS threatening the
bottom line." He told delegates: "UniChem has had to adapt in order to secure
its future and you will need to do the same."
He offered delegates 'ten top tips' to ensure survival during tough times and
highlighted four areas of particular relevance to Pharmacy:
-
Understand the true picture
-
Take decisive action
-
Cashflow is king
-
Keep an eye on the future
-
Focus on customers
-
Be innovative
-
Target cuts – keep what works, get rid of the waste
-
Seek opportunities
-
Retain good people
-
Get your staff on side
Jeremy also reinforced UniChem’s commitment to supporting its customers by
maintaining excellent service, product availability and innovative added-value
support. He promised pharmacists a continuation of this support and revealed
plans to launch a local marketing toolkit in 2009.
Jeremy concluded his presentation with a strong message: "Survival in tough
times is all about having the right mindset. By adopting a positive attitude it
is possible to turn challenges into opportunities."
Jeremy also gave a brief update on the successful launch of Alphega Pharmacy in
the UK, saying "Alphega Pharmacy goes from strength to strength and the
feedback from our members has been extremely positive. We continue to develop
the offering, working with our supplier partners to introduce exclusive product
initiatives. We really believe that Alphega Pharmacy is the gold standard of
support for our independent customers."
