UNICHEM CONVENTION 2008: "THE BENEFITS OF A UNITED
SUPPLY CHAIN CAN EXTEND BEYOND ETHICAL MEDICINES SUPPLY" – MARK STEPHENSON
Mark Stephenson, UniChem's Commercial and Supplier Relations
Director, today highlighted the wider benefits of a united pharmaceutical
supply chain and re-emphasised UniChem's commitment to working with all UK
supply chain stakeholders. Speaking to delegates at the UniChem Convention in
Oman, Mark outlined some of the additional benefits that UniChem has delivered
since implementing its new business model in 2007, including stronger category
offerings and manufacturer sponsored training and support in a variety of
product and therapy areas.
Mark told delegates: "We restructured our business model to improve our supply
chain efficiencies in a changing market. With the new model successfully
established, we have since been looking more closely at other ways in which
UniChem can facilitate closer ties between our pharmacy customers and supplier
partners."
In particular, Mark highlighted some of the mutual benefits of strengthening
supplier relationships through manufacturer support for pharmacy saying: "For
manufacturers there are the benefits of improved medicines compliance and
better knowledge of the products dispensed and sold in pharmacy. Meanwhile,
pharmacies benefit from increased footfall and an enhanced perception within
the community and with healthcare professionals."
In conclusion, Mark urged both pharmacists and manufacturers to share their
ideas with UniChem saying: "UniChem aims to support both our pharmacy customers
and supplier partners in their provision of leading-edge products and patient
services. The benefits of a united supply chain can extend beyond ethical
medicines supply and I’m sure there are plenty of other opportunities to build
on what we have achieved so far."
