33rd Alliance Healthcare Golf Week Held In Florence
Alliance Healthcare’s 2010 Golf Week has taken place in Florence. A long-standing highlight of the pharmacy calendar, this year’s Golf Week ran from 30 May to 5 June.
72 competitors - pharmacists and suppliers from across the UK - enjoyed great golfing at three of Italy’s top golf courses: Poggio Dei Medici, Montecatini and Le Pavoniere. Both the individual and team competitions were hotly contested: on the last day only 6 points separated the top 12 golfers. However Hitesh Patel of Carters Chemist in Hatfield ultimately took the singles championship trophy having gained 81 points over the course of the event. Jagpal Chahal of N&J Burntwood Chemist in Staffordshire was close behind with 77 points.
In a change to the traditional format, this year players were assigned to two teams drawn at random and their collective points aggregated to produce a team score. The team competition was also won by a very close margin with Team A, captained by Jayesh Patel, winning the trophy with 1,000 points - beating Yogin Patel’s Team B by just 7 points. A staggeringly close victory after a week of intense competition!
Guests spent the first part of the week at the beautiful Tuscan resort and international sporting venue of Poggio dei Medici; for the second part of the week they were based in central Florence at the splendid NH Anglo American Hotel. The week ended with a gala dinner at La Loggia restaurant, located on the Piazzale Michelangelo, a truly spectacular setting which overlooks the whole of Florence. The weather, as well as the Tuscan locations, also proved spectacular. The arrival of dramatic storms with thunder and lightning meant that, for the first time in the event’s history, play was partially suspended on two of the days. Despite the interruption, the competition was successfully completed.
Brian Fisher, Head of Sales at Alliance Healthcare commented: ‘As always, the Alliance Healthcare Golf Week has been a fantastic success. Thanks to our sponsors and customers the standard of the golfing competition was matched only by the conviviality of the atmosphere. We welcomed new friends and old to some of Europe’s most stunning settings and have been delighted by the feedback we have received from participants in this great Alliance Healthcare fixture.”
This year’s main sponsors were Quantum Pharmaceutical and Dr Reddy’s.
