Our CSR activities
As a healthcare business, serving every community in the UK, Alliance Healthcare is truly committed to helping people across the UK to lead healthier and happier lives. We are a highly people-oriented business and corporate social responsibility (CSR) is an integral part of the way we work, at every level of the company.
Our CSR activities are focused on four areas: community, environment, marketplace and workplace, and support the Walgreens Boots Alliance CSR commitments.

Helping the fight against cancer!
We're committed to helping the fight against cancer, and do so by creating large fundraising events in which our employees can participate, often with support from our generous customers, suppliers and partners.
Raising funds for the research and treatment of cancer
Since 2012, we've raised and donated over £800,000 for the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Cancer Research Fund, to support the partnership with Walgreens Boots Alliance and the creation of the first-pan European Biobank for colorectal cancer.
We held our annual Championship event in the usual two locations, in the north at Manchester, and in the south at Sunbury-on-Thames. More than 30 football and 8 netball teams battled it out on the sports fields, and with generous sponsorship from suppliers and partners, we raised over £53,000 for the EORTC.

In 2018 our teams voted to support three additional charities: Breast Cancer Care, Prostate Cancer UK and Teenage Cancer Trust, and are determined to raise £7,000 each through exciting fundraising events and challenges.
We're sending essential medical supplies to support disaster recovery. Over the past 12 years Walgreens Boots Alliance, including its legacy businesses has provided medical supplies for disaster relief and refugee camps through International Health Partners (IHP), Europe's largest coordinator of donated medicines. During fiscal 2017 Alliance Healthcare UK and Alloga UK donated to IHP more than $70,000 in cash and medical supplies, based on cost value. The products are used to create Essential Health Packs, which each contain around 60 lines of essential medicines and medical supplies including antibiotics, analgesics, anti-inflammatories and anti-fungals.
We're sending Christmas gifts to children across the world! Our team put together another 250 shoeboxes filled with toys and treats for young boys and girls across the world.
We're starting to volunteer in local communities, providing opportunities for colleagues to give back.

Alliance Healthcare proactively supports the personal health and wellbeing of its employees.
Through the following four key goals, we strive to create a workplace that treats everyone with dignity and respect.
To proactively support the personal health and wellbeing of our employees.
To continually embrace diversity across the business, through education and awareness. We strive for equal opportunities and equality.
On Tuesday 20 March we published our first Gender Pay Gap Report (2017).
As a business we are encouraged that our median pay gap figure of 7% is significantly less than the national average which is 18.4%, and our mean pay gap figure of 8% is significantly less than the national average of 17.4%. It is important to recognise that the demographic of our organisation is made up of 63% males and 38% females. But we recognise there is still work to be done to reduce the gap further.
Our CSR activities continue to grow, and we have some exciting plans to increase the awareness on all equality issues across the business, starting with the upcoming internal announcement for our Equality Committee, and the launch of our internal equality survey.

We're continuing our support for Public Health England (PHE) by delivering its campaign materials and toolkits to pharmacists in England.
We're protecting the environment for future generations.
We're monitoring and finding ways to reduce our carbon footprint. Across our fleet we've fitted Lightfoot – an in-cab technology systems and rewards platform that encourages and enables drivers to adopt a smoother driving style, which helps reduce risks, increase fuel efficiency and lower harmful emissions.
We're determined to reduce our paper consumption. Since June 2017, we've saved 878,872 pages of paper by putting price lists online, and reducing the number of letters we send.
We have contracts to purchase electricity generated from renewable origins. All electricity that we purchase directly through the utility grid is certified as renewable. The rest of the energy consumed is purchased by third parties, which limits the influence of buying power from renewable origins.
