Alliance Healthcare UK Helps 50,000 Mothers and Children at Risk of Malnutrition

Five Alliance Healthcare employees raised £10,000 for Vitamin Angels by cycling 260 miles over four days from the company's site in Leeds to the Support Centre office and service centre in Chessington.

The cyclists' journey was broken down with stops at some of the company sites, where local teams organised fundraising events to support the charity which included barbecues and cake sales. At the finish line in Chessington, the team was met by a cheering crowd of the employees, Managing Director Julian Mount and the Vitamin Angels mascot, Angelique. Later in the day there was a celebratory barbecue and a range of fundraising activities, including tombola, health and beauty product sale, and a lucky dip.

With just 20p Vitamin Angels can provide life-saving vitamins to mothers and children under five who are at risk of malnutrition, which is one of the causes of preventable child deaths. The donations from Alliance Healthcare employees will help the charity to provide this support.

Andrew McMichael, Belfast Service Centre Manager, one of the cyclists from Alliance Healthcare UK, said: "I'm immensely proud to take part in this amazing event for an incredible cause. The support and well wishes we received kept us getting up in the morning and cycling on late into the evening, and with all the support we received during the challenge, I was almost sad when it was all over! Fantastic commitment from everyone taking part."

Katelyn Harbison from Vitamin Angels said: "With a goal of raising £10,000, this cycle challenge will help Vitamin Angels reach an additional 50,000 children with life changing nutritional support. We are so grateful to the cyclists and the entire Alliance Healthcare team for helping us break the cycle of malnutrition!"

Alliance Healthcare thanks sponsor LCM and other sponsors for their generous donation which was instrumental to the success of the event.
