Alphega Pharmacy members shine at C&D Awards

Two Alphega Pharmacy members won awards at the prestigious Chemist + Druggist (C+D) Awards, which took place on Wednesday 6 June

At the recent C&D Awards, Alphega Pharmacy members Cadham Pharmacy Health Centre, Fife and Knights Pharmacy, Crossfell Pharmacy, Middlesbrough, had plenty to celebrate as they took home two of the awards: Independent Pharmacy of the Year and Pharmacy Staff Member of the Year.

  • Independent Pharmacy of the Year – Cadham Pharmacy Health Centre, Glenrothes, Fife

Out of eight shortlisted pharmacies, Cadham Pharmacy was awarded the Independent Pharmacy of the Year accolade due to the transformation it has made over the decade to become a visionary pharmacy health centre.

Today, Ms Brown's pharmacy offers an extensive range of services, including pharmacy follow-up consultations, online bookings and a walk-in health centre hub for NHS services, as well as a travel clinic, a partnership with a local nurse and treatments for improving cosmetic appearance. The team has also grown from five to 21, with the added benefit of four dispensing robots – an automated device that picks prescriptions.

  • Pharmacy Staff Member of the Year – Amy Harper, Knights Pharmacy, Crossfell Pharmacy, Middlesbrough

Within a few years Amy Harper has swiftly risen through the ranks, from Trainee Dispenser to Pharmacy Manager.

Following multiple resignations from senior staff and a decline in prescriptions, Ms Harper has worked tirelessly to build a team. In addition, she has shifted the focus of her team from dispensing only to a wider range of healthcare services.

As part of her search to improve patients' health and wellbeing, she saw an opportunity to offer vaccinations to primary school teachers at their place of work. Since then her pharmacy team has vaccinated those working at the two local schools - and she has received more demand for this service.

In addition, Ms Harper has implemented a text messaging system that notifies patients when their prescriptions are ready to collect. It is also used to notify patients of upcoming services, such as medicines use reviews or flu vaccinations.

Commenting on the award winners, Raj Nutan, Head of Alphega Pharmacy UK, says: "These winners have shown incredible leadership and foresight. The work they are doing is phenomenal and they have demonstrated a real passion for independent pharmacy."

The C&D Awards is a showcase of excellence in the pharmacy sector with categories for individuals and pharmacy teams, health initiatives, business projects and premises redesigns. This year's awards ceremony took place at the Intercontinental Hotel, London O2.
